Let’s be real here, marketing is a really scary concept to begin with, but marketing as an introvert can feel even more daunting. Here are a few ways you can connect with your audience and market your book without feeling the urge to run back into your writing cave.

Focus on serving others instead of selling to them

Why did you write a book? Why do people need your book? What will they get out of it emotionally, spiritually or professionally? These are the types of topics you should address in your social posts, in videos, in your emails, on your website and face-to-face to prospective buyers. Focus on the story behind why you just HAD to write this book and the value you will be providing your readers and they will be dying to get their hands on it.

Do what you do best: WRITING

If you’ve been wondering why every author seems to have a blog, this is it. Blogging is a fantastic, non-threatening way to talk to your readers. It’s a lot less nerve-wracking than doing an Instagram live or starting a YouTube channel. You can talk about your book in a casual manner almost like journal entries. And it won’t feel like you’re marketing to your audience because you’ll simply be sharing updates and talking about what you’re excited about which will in turn make your fans excited too.

Email Marketing

Similarly to blogging, email marketing is a way for you to routinely talk to your readers, without being salesy. If they’re used to seeing your face pop up in their inbox monthly/bimonthly they will begin to associate your email updates with positive feelings like getting a text from a close friend. So once you transition to talking about your book, they will be much more open to hearing about it because they will feel like they KNOW you.

Network

I know what you’re thinking, and trust me the “N” word is scary for me too. However, networking online has become a lot more common and it’s a lot less intimidating than face-to-face networking at conferences or book events. Commenting on posts, sending a friendly DM, or going out of your way to email someone about how much you like their content is a great way to meet like-minded individuals and start building connections that will continue throughout your writing career.

Book marketing is anything but straightforward and it might take some time to find which methods work best for you and your book, but the more you try and put yourself out there, the easier it will become. Shoot me a DM on Instagram if you’re still unsure where to start with your book marketing, I’d love to speak with you!
